You would think that with the way the economy is today, the major carriers would try a bit harder to provide "excellent" customer service. Well it just "aint" so!
I have some close friends that had an Ice Maker leak about three months ago. Now I still to this day tell anyone I can, don't use or even hook up your ice maker. Will save that for another Blog.
Anyway, about three months ago, the ice maker broke while the homeowners were not home! To make a long story longer, the carrier (first rock from the sun)(verified) was the carrier! To this day (at last follow up) the repairs have not even been started. The carrier sent out a floor vendor to assess all the damages. I think Servpro did the initial water removal, and took out some drywall.
Of course the floor vendor who was just concerned with the floor and making the carrier happy, bid about $5000 less than it would cost. Than if that was not bad enough, missed the "Hard Wood" flooring in the bedroom that had started to buckle.
Now, keep in mind this young couple has a very young child, and with hard wood floor damage through most of the house, the home is not livable!
Loss of use you say! What would a floor vendor know of such things, so of course the carrier is not paying for it. The carrier told the couple to go live with his parents.
In short, or long, this couple is getting a beating from their carrier.
This type of claims handling is the "norm" for most companies, and yes even the bigger ones.
Advise would be to work your way up the food chain until you feel you are speaking to someone who can really help you. If after you file the claim, and as soon as the carrier starts rattling your chain, there is always the "Public Adjuster." I believe they charge 6 percent of what you recover, but they know how to stay in the carriers face. Remember the adjuster that is assigned to your case most likely is handling a pending in excess of 100 files at one time.
Keep in mind, your insurance company is not:
"a good neighbor'
"their for you"
"holding you in their hands"
any of those silly sayings they like to sing to you during their commercials!
The insurance company is no longer their for you, they are only interested in the premiums you pay and the investments they make, and yes their wonderful "share holders."
Yes those wonderful share holders who do not care if someone had to die, or en dour the worst kind of torture (dealing with a staff adjuster) as long as they made a profit on their investment.
Let me hear your comments!
